Renewal
Józsefváros, one of the historical quarters of Budapest, has been developing dynamically. A significant part of this process is the Corvin Promenade project. Prime quality environment will be built on a project area covering 80.700 m2’s. Shopping street, office and residential areas will form this new neighborhood, where the buildings will house restaurants, cafés, pubs, and small stores at street level.
Not only will new buildings be added to the neighborhood, but also many existing ones that give character to the quarter will be preserved and renovated, therefore the whole area will be renewed.
To be renovated:
- 46 historical apartment buildings with 1,400 units (municipality property and private owners)
- Public Elementary School
- Metro underpasses at the two gates of the area (Ferenc körút and Klinikák stops)
- Entire public utility infrastructure replaced
- All streets in the area will be widened significantly in consecutive phases
- New construction: 20,000 m2 of new public space: walkways, small parks, fountains, imaginative spaces
To be replaced:
- 1,100 apartments in very poor structural state owned chiefly by the Municipality. People are moving into apartments offering improved conditions.
- With the renewal, the quarter becomes one of the safest ones in the city.
- The expansion of the existing street level video surveillance system guarantees public safety.
- A company formed by the Municipality and the Developer will be in charge of the monitoring, cleaning, and maintenance of public areas.
The traffic scheme is to be reformed:
- Various changes implemented will significantly improve the vehicular approachability of the area, and leaving by car in various directions will also be made faster.
- All buildings will rise over underground parking garages (close to 5,000 total capacity) making drivers and pedestrians happier alike.
