The Promenade
This large new public space is the emblematic namesake of the latest neighbourhood of Budapest to be born. It will be a clean, orderly, safe area specled with restaurants with outdoor terraces, coffee houses, shops; and will have a livable constucted environment featuring lots of greenery. Friendly and comfortable, yet vibrant and exciting – the bustling promenade will be one of the most frequented meeting points in the city.
A real pedestrian heaven: car traffic will only be allowed in cross-streets - and even there at a lowered speed limit. Corvin Promenade brings a new quality of life to the city.
Let’s take a walk:
- The quarter’s Western entrance is at Corvin Multiplex, situated in Corvin köz, through which we reach the first newly built section of the promenade.
- Corvin Atrium starting at Kisfaludy Street is the glass-roof covered arcade section functioning as a shopping street (over 200 meters long).
- Stepping out of the Atrium at Futó Street, the promenade widens to a mighty 36 meters, and for the next 300 meters we will pass many lively restaurant terraces, lots of greenery and fountains. We can sit down in a pastry shop for a small treat, watch life happen on the street in front of us, or stay in it by sitting on a bench under a tree, and take a rest there.
- The promenade’s further 100-meter long section closest to the Klinkák Metro Station will pass by a building of unique architectural value, one that will make us pause for a while before we move on to the marvelous old Botanical Gardens (Füvészkert) only minutes away.
Timing:
- Phase One: finished at December 2009, the first 100-meter long and 36-meter wide section between Futó and Nagytemplom Streets will be completed
- Phase Two: by 3Q 2010, the 200-meter long, glass-roof covered section that starts at Corvin Multiplex will be built. By the time Corvin Atrium opens, the existing unique section known as Corvin köz will also be renewed.
- Phase Three: by end of 2014 you will be able to walk down the entire length of the promenade
